Makeup Artist Memoirs by Misti: American Beauty @ Kohl's

ab_H1MA_250.jpgI love blush. To me, it's one of the most important items in my makeup bag, so I'm always trying new brands and varieties of blushes that are on the market. Lately everyone has been really into mineral powder cosmetics for a variety of reasons (light coverage, all natural, no liquids, etc).

I've tried a few different lines from the popular, Bare Escentuals to the more price-friendly, Cover Girl TRUblend Microminerals Blush.

So, I was excited to try the Perfect Mineral Loose Powder Blush from American Beauty.

If you not familiar with American Beauty, that's okay --- the line is exclusively sold in Kohl's.

I tried the shade 'Plum Pebble', the color looked dark, but, a note about mineral products is that they all look darker in color then they really are. So the darkness of the shade didn't scare me off.

(FYI: I'm a pretty pale person, so I tend to stick to light shades for my everyday look).

The first thing I noticed when I opened the package was the craptastic excuse for a blush brush, I took one look at it and rolled my eyes, the second I put the brush to my face, I looked like I was shedding bristles. Sexy, right? Needless to say, I tossed the AB brush & used my handy dandy MAC blush brush!

The product itself was easy enough to apply --- most mineral powder products go on smooth.

The color and pigment on the other hand...

Not thrilling me.

The first layer went on and it barely look as if I had any color on my cheeks.

After applying the product about 3-4 times per cheek it finally started looking like it should.

(In fact, I had lunch with Elyse that afternoon, and she also noted it looked as if I was barely wearing anything.)

I'm disappointed with this one.

The product itself is fine if you're looking for that everyday natural look, (but personally, I would still stick with the Cover Girl brand which gives better coverage and has just a hint of shimmer which I also found lacking from the American Beauty product).

((The Cover Girl brand is also cheaper at $10.99 compared to American Beauty's $18.50.))

Oh well, can't win em' all.

This opinion renders it's exasperation manifest. This specific brief review careens efficiently directly into pet peeves that have already not a thing to do with the blog, centering alternatively on generalizations concerning gals, backgrounds, bicyclists, coupled with an race documented with the adjective chosen as being a noun. Some sort of coded offending outburst is added, followed promptly by allegations of a “race card” currently being played.

It sounds like you're creating problems yourself by trying to solve this issue instead of looking at why their is a problem in the first place.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that.
