Let me start this off by saying, I don't have a problem with kids. Only when those kids become pain in the ass child models, will they have a problem with me.
Being a makeup artist in CO, you automatically understand that most of your business is going to come in the summer months, when the weather is nice for the outdoor shoots photographers long for.
Let me explain...
I was hired by a model friend of mine who was starting her own kids clothing line, she wanted a makeup artist to do 'light makeup' and 'light hair' on the kids who would be modeling her new kids line.
I agreed to do this --- not fully understanding what I was getting into.
At first I was really excited, I went all out buying these things called Streekers, they are temporary hair color, so I could make the kids look all kinds of cool for this photo shoot.
Little did I know that the photo shoot was going to be a type of hell on earth!!
Not only were the kinds total brats, they got into everything.
I’ve worked with a few child models before; and, for the most part, they sat as still as they could, and at the very least kept their paws out of my lip gloss.
But, these little devils however, were just “friends” of the women who hired me, and had no concept of basic manners, let alone the professionalism of how to behave during a photo shoot.
After a long day in the sun of chasing kids with a mascara wand, lip gloss, or the ever-handy portable curling iron…I was sunburned to hell (again) and in need a good, cold drink,
It was just about time for me to wrap up playing Makeup-Artist-Meets-Nanny when I saw the worst thing ever:
The photographer giving the kids bubbles and water guns for the last couple of shoots.
Yup. Exactly.
Helping a friend out with 'light makeup' & 'light hair', working with little non-model monsters, running a damn marathon trying to get the kids all dolled up, and it was all ruined with bubbles & water!!!
Once I got the proofs back, I was disgusted with my work.
Needless to say, I decided to never work this woman again.
It just wasn’t worth it.
