October 2009 Archives
My hair is coming out of, what I like to call, 'life after the bob'.
About two years ago, my hair was hitting the small of my back. Then after a emotional nightmare, I needed a change. Holmes & Beckham went bob, and so did I.
Of course, being in a state of duress, I forgot how long it would take to grow out:
Forever.
Fast forward to now, and I'm still having shoulder length woes. It's the classic situation: I rarely cut it b/c I'm sprinting the growth marathon, and I foolishly assume every milli-inch is going to aid in the salvation of my locks.
Right.
I went 6 months without a haircut, holding out - doing rain warrior dances to the hair gods, praying it would grow fast.
The result, was hideous, unshapely gremlin-locks sprinkled with split ends.
I needed a good cut, and stat.
I heard about rare Salon, which also happens to be the Pureology Flagship Salon, a hop skip in Tribeca (from my office on Mott St.), so I forced myself to go.
Who: Salon Ziba
What: Complimentary L'ANZA Ultimate Treatment for hair
When: October 29 & 30, 2009 - Noon until 6:30pm
By appointment only at 212 767 0577. No purchase/or other service necessary. Value of $25.
Why: Because we love free shit. (Ok, the salon is really having a Halloween special.)
After doing a little mid-day internet shopping, I stumbled upon this little treat.
Coco Saddle Bag in Cognac, by Lesa Wallace.
I'm not quite sure of the brand, and it seems like you can only purchase this bag through their site, but the bag is yet another, recent, stellar chest-strap, messenger find.
It's weathered, it looks antique, it's charming.
And the copy is just succulent: 'soft cow leather & polished Italian gold hardware'.
Whoever wrote your copy: Kudos.
Whoever designed the bag: I love you.
Orgasm.
Price: $325.00
With Halloween only 3 days away, it is time to start thinking about our makeup.
As promised, here are 2 of my favorite looks:
1. Rainbow Bright
2. Deadly Dame
Look #1: Rainbow Bright from using Flirt Cosmetics!

Cheek: Dust Peek-A-Blush in Pink Tutu on cheekbones.
Lip: For bright, brilliant shine apply Glamourazzi Extreme Lip Lacquer in Va Va Voom.
Eyes: Experiment with color-rich hues like Dreamy Eyes Eyeshadow in Glamourazzi and Limited Edition Aztec Aqua on eyelids.
Finsh off the look with Big Flirt Thickening Mascara like Real Teal or Violet Vixen on your lashes.
Halloween is the one time a year we can dress up as our favorite Twilight vamps and not stared down like we're crazy.
And, if you're not into the whole Twilight fandom...don't worry I've got you covered.
Stay tuned for my favorite non-Twilight Halloween looks.
But for now, Twi-Fans, this one's for you:
Check out this video that shows how-to re-create the look that actress Dakota Fanning is sports as 'Jane' in 'New Moon':
This makeup artist got it pretty damn close!
If your not into Jane, here are some products that will help you transform into a 'Cullen' in no time:
*Global Goddess's Floating Diamonds Body Shimmer
*MAC's Face & Body Foundation in C1
*Follow up with Benefit's Get Even Pressed Powder in Light
*Finish off with Twilight Beauty's Twilight Beauty Lip Venom
If you were born in the 80's then you definitely had a "My Little Pony"...
Remember the simple and sweet joy of toting around your little pink or purple furry friends?
Fast forward some twenty years to the current season.
Seems to me that lots of designers are missing their ponies, and I feel you.
Faux furs are everywhere from Kohl's to Bergdorf's.
This Glamour Cow could never heart to buy the real thing, but the reality is that the faux versions are just as fabulous.
Our favorite come from the genius that is Rachel Zoe.
Her line that is available on QVC website is bananas.
She gets it just right (naturally she would, she is a Demigod afterall).
They don't look cheap (although the price tags definitely leave room for happy hour) and the shape is right.
There are vests and toggle coats in every size Barbie, which you have to appreciate.
My must have is the faux fur vest in red fox.
I envision myself wearing it holding a starbucks screaming "SHUT IT DOWN" to my imaginary assistants.
