March 2010 Archives

chanelnatural.jpgWe've seen all pastel brights in nail polish this season; but, why not be ahead of the game and try one of the looks for fall?

(I know it just hit 70 two weeks ago.. So why am I suggesting anything to do with fall??)

The runways for F/W 2010 have transitioned our bare legs and nude heels (so hot!) onto our nails.

So how do you get a nice and stylish neutral nail color?

You could keep classic (yawn) with a peach or blush color, try O.P.I. 'Get Me to the Taj on Time', Chanel 'Inattendu' or 'Tendresse'. OR you could dirty it up and go with more of a 'mud' color.

Inspired by the runways for F/W 2010 (Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, etc), this 'mud' is anything but dirty.

Try the Essie 'Chinchilly' or Sally Hansen 'Commander in Chic' (I'm obsessed).

If you really want to go all out try one of the runway recipes here.

So why natural?

Some say it's the economy why we're seeing so much neutral: the need to go 'back to basics'. But if you ask me, neutral colors are classy, can last longer (if applied correctly) and alludes to longer digits as well. Whatever the reason, try it out and see which au natural look you rock best.

louisvuittonbirdcages.jpgBirdcages are everywhere.

From LV window displays, Alexander Mcqueen ads, bird necklaces, lamps, Givenchy shoes and for those of you who want to go the extra mile, bird inspired lingerie (Someone call PETA).

Scary?

Yes a little; but, that doesn't stop me from exploring all sorts of ways this new avian domination came into play.

Fall fashion '09 was all about incorporating feathers into clothing and became an innovative way to spice up a dress, a shoe, a bag. It satisfied my love of bold, bright colors for a while and we had a good run. But I thought it was over this 'feather fad', "no biggie," I thought, another one bites the dust.

WRONG.

Apparently designers were just getting started.

Are birds themselves are not beautiful enough, so we've moved on to birdcages?
Quite frankly, I'm intrigued.

At first glance didn't you think "sketchy Chinese restaurant décor?" (or 'chinoiserie' for all of you high-brow broads)?

Yea me too. But then you realize 'chinoiserie' really never goes out of fashion, 'fashion forward' people are usually 'sketchy', and well.. 'Louis Vuitton' is 'Louis Vuitton' for a reason.

Ok. I'll bite.

My favorite bird cage trend is not an item of clothing, it's actually birdcage lamps from Urban Outfitters. They even come with little faux birdies in them so you don't feel like a total fraud.

It may be a little abstract...but it still looks fucking cool.

How do you like to wear this trend?

BioreReviews.jpg"The Biore brand is all about proof that you can see & feel," says Kari Kull-Heng, Assistant Brand Manager at Kao Brands (parent company of Biore).

"This is all thanks to the Biore pore strip," she adds.

This was the intro to the Biore 'party in the shower' preview event, I attended for their two new products; 'Steam Activated' Cleanser & Makeup Removing Towelettes.

First up the 'Steam Activated' Cleanser:

Erica Palmer, who called herseld the Biore Scientist, talked about the cleanser. She opened by saying: "When's the last time you talked science in the shower" (this was super-cheese).

DitaNails.jpgSo last weekend was the Calle Ocho festival in Miami.

Translation: The San Gennaro Feast for Hispanics in Miami that lasts one crazy day. But (!) this is really the equivalent of what Broadway is to New Yorkers.

Yeah it's that serious.

Outfit selection is always what screams Cholita: lots of hair gel, razor blades under my tongue and now these killer (literally) nails from Kiss.

They mimic Dita Von Teese half moon manicure, that the diva apparently had Kiss make because her shit was chipping. They are self-adhensive which is great for me.

And to boot, I can apply them while driving with my windows rolled down blasting Cecilia Cruz.

Love my life.

datingnumbers.jpgAfter the 'facebook boy' asked me to friend him on FB I thought I've seen it all, and since then I've had quite the dry spell in the men department.

Since, I have yet to come across a good piece of merchandise that I just have to have, my friend Melissa and I decided it was time to venture out of our JWU comfort zone...We made a plan: to live life on the edge (!), investigate unchartered territory, challenging our intelligence every step of the way. I'd say we were a two woman wolf pack.

When Sublime tribute band, 40 oz to freedom, came to the club by our school we decide to take a chance and go. And why not? We wanted to meet guys anyway.

We did the standard pregame sesh (a bottle of cheap vodka and some seltzer water to chase) and were on our merry way.
