How Alice in Wonderland Is Influencing Fashion And The Madness Of The Rabbit Hole

NicholasKirkwoodAlice.jpgTim Burton's interpretation on Alice in Wonderland made me realize one thing: he's affecting the fashion world, and in a very Gaga sort-a-way.

(I know, Gaga is starting to grate on me too...)

Burton, combines Disney's fairy tale innocent princess with Carroll's original trippy heroine and seems to have created the ultimate mix of darkness and fantasy.

Designers of all stages have taken to Burton's idea and created pieces, collections and whatever they could to be a part of the phenomena.

Disney was the first (considering they produced the movie) to enlist designer Tom Binn (known for his creations for Michelle Obama) to create not one, but two luxury jewelry lines inspired by Alice and her odd gang of friends.

Other designers to follow suit?

Sue Wong, who created a limited edition line of high-end dresses, Zac Posen, with both a collaborative jewelry line and pieces from his Spring collection, as well as Stella McCartney, Versace (some killer shoes I might add), and even chain retailers (ie: Urban Outfitters) have jumped at the chance to market the hell out of this movie.

Clothing inspiration has been a mix of whimsical feminine looks to edgy and earthier ones.

The main pieces of inspiration?

Innocent stockings, bold jumpers, and playful frocks, that can be found in lace, plaids and fantastical prints featuring red hearts, rabbits, clocks and tea.

In addition to the designs we’ve already or have yet to see, we can’t forget that the biggest is still to come: the actual movie.

Will it live up to the fashion hype surrounding it? Here’s to hoping.

With the release of Alice in Wonderland only a week away, what Alice trend are you willing to fall down a rabbit hole for?
